However the situation is more serious than it looks. A half a year ago a bank named BEM, in which the state was the majority share holder was sold through a false decision to unknown shareholders.
A few time passed and the bank shares were returned to the state through another decision, this time issued by the National Bank of Moldova. Also the National Bank established a management board to maintain under control the created situation.
Meanwhile a currency market player (a former prime-minister), the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance and later a newspaper investigation claimed that from BEM were stolen at least 17 million lei's. And this moneys were used to buy dollars which were immediately transferred to an offshore bank account. This pushed the exchange rate to get it's equilibrium and generated panic.
All state structures keep silent about this incident and only blame the situation in nearby countries, while a IMF report states that the National Bank of Moldova offered 3.5 billion lei's to BEM to avoid bankruptcy.
I don't know who's right, i don't even trust my own person. Newspapers talk and we just take conclusions.
