As Kodi 17 came with a new skin named Estuary, it's harder to find where the Add Subtitles on Kodi option was hidden. But that's not impossible.
How to Add Subtitles on Kodi Krypton
If you prefer a written tutorial, scroll down below the video starts the written tutorial.
- From Home menu, navigate to the Gear icon at the top-left side of the screen > Player settings > Language
- Preferred Subtitle Language - here choose which is your preferred language and press Ok
- -Size (under Font)- you can adjust the text size according to your needs
- Languages to Download Subtitles For - select the languages in which you can get subtitles, as an example if there is no subtitles in Romanian it may still find in English. Here you can choose multiple options and then press Ok
- Default TV Show Service> Get more... - now we'll add the subtitle sources, if you have a preferred source choose it, if not you can choose Subscene.com (i like it), it will download some files fast. Now this will be our Primary source for TV Shows, in case that this source doesn't contain subtitles for our TV Show, download 2-3 more sources so we can search our subtitles there too. To add more sources repeat this step.
- Default Movie Service> Get more... - here we'll add the primary subtitle source for Movies, as we previously already downloaded some sources, you can select your preferred source from the list, or add it.
That's all, now run a Movie/TV Show , trigger the controls bar from the bottom and press the "Message" icon near the Gear icon in the bottom-right side of the screen > press Download and wait till it searches subtitles in your preferred source, when it finishes just choose the subtitle that you find more relevant. If it didn't found any Subtitles, from the left side of the screen, choose another Source (if you added more sources, they will appear here), and wait till it searches again.
Scroll through the Movie/TV-Show, the subtitle should be activated now.
